Small by Design
Public School #23, now Wolfe Street Academy, has served the Southeast Baltimore community since 1852, when the school first opened as a traditional public school. When Principal Gaither arrived in 2005, he and the teachers and families successfully pushed for community school status with Baltimore City Public Schools. Two years later, Wolfe Street Academy joined the Baltimore Curriculum Project’s network of public neighborhood conversion charter schools. Because we are intentionally small, we can best serve each student and family. It also means we really know each family and can work with our community partners to meet your family’s unique needs.
Our Community Partners
Our success depends on the health and wellbeing of our students, families, and community. In 2006, we adopted the Community School Strategy, which means that our school is also a partnership with the larger community to provide resources to our students and families. As a community school, we are a center of the community and are open to everyone.
Our full-time Community School Site Coordinator coordinates resources to improve student learning and create stronger families and healthier communities. Elev8 Baltimore, our Community School Lead Agency, works closely with us to ensure that every program and outreach is meeting the needs of the community.
